Multiple sources have reported and the league has confirmed that after a 15-hour long negotiation session that went on from midday Friday to early Saturday morning that a deal has been reached on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Ken Berger of CBSSports.com was the first to report the news. The agreement will lead to the lifting of the lockout after an official vote passes on both sides.
Before an official vote can be conducted, the players must reform the union and both sides must come to an agreement on B-Level items like drug testing, the age limit on entering the draft and NBDL assignments.
During a joint press conference with player rep Billy Hunter, NBA Commissioner David Stern voiced the desire for training camp and free agency to start simultaneously on December 9th, followed by the start of a 66-game regular season on December 25th. Both are contingent on things going smoothly over the next week as the i’s are dotted and the t’s are crossed.
As of early Saturday morning, details of the new CBA were not yet available. HOOPSWORLD will continue to bring you the latest as it is made available.
HOOPSWORLD writers Alex Kennedy and Eric Pincus also contributed to this report.
