There’s sad news from the broadcasting world as ESPN is reporting that Jim Durham, the lead play-by-play commentator for the network’s NBA on ESPN Radio broadcasts, passed away at his Tomball, Tex. home Sunday.
Durham, 65, held the position since the show’s inception in 1996, and worked last Tuesday’s opening night game between Boston and Miami with longtime partner Dr. Jack Ramsay.
Durham was honored by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011 with the Curt Gowdy Media Award and prior to his time at ESPN worked as the voice of the Dallas Mavericks and Chicago Bulls.
Here is Durham’s call on Michael Jordan’s final shot as a member of the Bulls in Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals.
