NBA owners and players met again on Saturday for over six hours – this time with federal mediator George Cohen present.
The sides are attempting to bridge the gap on how to split basketball-related income.
Hall of Famer and Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan joined Portland Trail Blazers billionaire owner Paul Allen were also present. The duo is believed to be part of the hardliner group which is offering a worse deal that initially proposed.
Owners have steadfastly refused to offer anything more than a 50-50 split with the players in regard to basketball-related income.
The players were guaranteed 57 percent under the old collective bargaining agreement. At last report, they have proposed a reduction to 52.5 percent – thereby leaving the sides approximately $100 million apart based on last season’s numbers.
The work stoppage is into its 128th day, and the belief is that commissioner David Stern will cancel some of the December schedule if the two sides can’t work something out over the weekend.
