NBA players under contract barred from playing in China
The Chinese Basketball Association will not allow players under contract to play in the league next season in the event of an NBA lockout.
The CBA also announced Friday that any free agent NBA players can sign with the league but must agree to play the entire season.
NBA players who have signed to play abroad during a lockout have had an opt-out clause in their contracts that allows them to return to the NBA when the lockout ends.
Without an opt-out clause to return to the NBA once the lockout ends, NBA players will be reluctant to sign a contract with a Chinese team and commit to an entire season.
Several NBA players have signed to play elsewhere next season, most notably New Jersey Nets guard Deron Williams in Turkey. Superstars Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant have said they would consider playing in China during an extended lockout.
