NBA Power Rankings Week 12

3/19/12 – The NBA Trade Deadline came and went. Through most of the season there weren’t any significant deals; then the floodgates opened. The Denver Nuggets got out of Nene’s contract for JaVale McGee. The Los Angeles teams add key role players (Ramon Sessions to Lakers; Nick Young to Clippers) – while the Lakers say goodbye to fixture Derek Fisher. Can Andrew Bogut for Monta Ellis pay dividends for both the Golden State Warriors (next year) and the Milwaukee Bucks this season? Meanwhile teams will start scouring the waiver wire. The NBA, 12 weeks in . . .

NBA Power Rankings Week 12

Team Rank Last Standing Comments
1
1 37-10 Already up to 37 wins, three more than the Thunder and four more than the HEAT.
2
2 34-11 The Thunder have shown signs of slowing a bit but are still four games up above the second-place Spurs in the West.
3
3 33-11 Signs of life on Sunday from Chris Bosh who has been struggling.
4
5 29-14 Stephen Jackson on the Spurs doesn’t make them younger but he does make them more dangerous.
5
4 29-17 Dwight Howard is still in town but does this mean he’s truly here to stay for another year? Beyond?
6
6 28-17 The Lakers essentially swapped out Derek Fisher for Ramon Sessions but their loss to the Jazz in LA suggests they still have a lot of work to do.
7
7 25-18 The Grizzlies finally have Zach Randolph back and once again are one of the more dangerous teams in the West.
8
11 26-18 Chris Paul is starting to do Chris Paul things.
9
12 25-20 Wilson Chandler finally signs. The Nuggets have a load of talent.
10
14 26-20 The Mavs are finally climbing out of their slump, winning three straight.
11
10 25-18 The Pacers have been inconsistent. Perhaps Leandro Barbosa will help . . . at least offensively.
12
9 26-19 The Hawks hold fast at the deadline. Not every trade request deserves granting.
13
8 25-20 The Sixers are holding teams to just 87.8 points per game, best in the league.
14
18 23-22 The Suns are suddenly just a half game out of the eighth-spot.
15
13 23-21 Is Jermaine O’Neal not healthy? If he is, why are there rumors of buy-out and Miami . . . instead of actually playing for the Celtics?
16
22 23-22 Alec Burks? Ask the Lakers about him.
17
15 24-22 The Rockets battle into a playoff spot only to be derailed by a viral infection to point guard Kyle Lowry?
18
20 21-24 The Knicks are picking up the pieces, just in time because the Bucks aren’t playing around.
19
23 20-24 The Bucks add Monta Ellis and are on a tear in the East.
20
16 22-24 The Wolves are feeling the loss of Ricky Rubio, losing three straight in a very crowded West.
21
17 21-24 Wait, who is still on the Blazers?
22
19 18-24 Embrace the tanking, it’s for the best.
23
21 16-26 The Cavaliers are struggling and while they’re only a few games out of the playoffs, the margin seems too large to tackle.
24
26 16-29 The Kings give up 103 points a night, easily the worst in the league.
25
27 15-30 Andrea Bargnani is finally back but by now the Raptors are all but out of it.
26
24 16-29 The Pistons are this season’s best worst team.
27
25 15-31 The Nets dealt their lottery pick away as long as it’s not top three. They either need to get really, really awful or really, really good . . .
28
28 11-34 It appears the Hornets will be sold soon with a long-term stay in New Orleans all but official.
29
29 10-34 The Wizards invest in Nene taking on his $65 million contract.
30
30 7-36 Bismack Biyombo is a bit raw but he’s starting to produce for the Bobcats.
