3/26/12 – There wasn’t tremendous fluctuation in the standings as the bad teams remain bad, the good teams are still looking to make their run and the best teams on top are still clearly the best. The Atlanta Hawks have shaken off their midseason slump and are once again a force. The Milwaukee Bucks have designs on the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference, currently occupied by the Milwaukee Bucks. Meanwhile the West is wide open with just 4 1/2 games separating the fourth-place Los Angeles Clippers and the 12th place Portland Trail Blazers. The NBA, 13 weeks in . . .
| Team | Rank | Last | Standing | Comments | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
40-10 | The Bulls are making the case against Derrick Rose for MVP. | |||
37-12 | Derek Fisher may struggle his entire regular-season stretch for the Thunder but when they need a big shot in the postseason? | |||
35-12 | The HEAT took it on the chin in a marquee match-up against the Thunder. | |||
33-14 | The Spurs may be “old” but they may also be the team most ready to challenge the Thunder in the West. | |||
31-18 | The Magic are the third seed in the East but that’s no lock with the Hawks and Pacers lurking below. | |||
30-19 | The Lakers appear to be better than they were pre-Ramon Sessions but the chemistry is still developing. | |||
30-20 | The Hawks have seen a rejuvenated Joe Johnson and their record certainly reflects that . . . | |||
26-21 | It was an ugly week for the Grizzlies – somewhat redeemed by their win in Los Angeles over the Lakers. | |||
28-22 | Lamar Odom gets his first DNP-CD. | |||
27-21 | The Clippers are somehow hanging onto a top-ten spot but that may have more to do with teams below than LA’s recent performance. | |||
28-19 | The Pacers have a lot more left at home this year so expect a climb. | |||
27-22 | The Sixers have been treading water for some time now. If the Celtics catch them, the drop goes from the fourth seed to about seventh. | |||
26-23 | The Nuggets are somehow slotted ninth in the West (injuries a key reason). If there’s a team to make a late season burst it’s Denver. | |||
25-24 | Inching closer and closer to a .500 road record, the Suns making the playoff argument. | |||
26-22 | If the standings hold, do the Magic really want to play the Celtics in the first round? Then again Boston has no center . . . | |||
26-23 | The Jazz have been playing very well lately but that quad-OT loss in Atlanta was a gut-punch. | |||
26-23 | How much is it the players and how much Coach Kevin McHale? The Rockets are still battling despite losing starting point guard Kyle Lowry. | |||
24-25 | Woody-ball has been working for the Knicks but they were due for a loss. | |||
22-26 | Neither the Bucks nor the Knicks have much room for error. Milwaukee is going to be after it all the way through the end of April. | |||
24-26 | Kevin Love is doing some crazy things this year. | |||
23-26 | The Blazers still expect to make the playoffs. | |||
20-27 | Where has Charles Jenkins been all season? | |||
17-29 | The Cavaliers have faint playoff hopes but it’s been a solid season given how strong impact-rookie Kyrie Irving has proven to be. | |||
17-31 | Isaiah Thomas 10.1 points a game on 43.8% shooting; Jimmer Fredette 7.4 points on 38.4%. Who knew? | |||
16-33 | Counting down the days until Jonas Valanciunas comes over along with the Raptors 2012 lottery pick. | |||
16-34 | The Nets – where things just didn’t work out this season. | |||
16-32 | The Pistons have gone on some impressive stretches but seem to keep sinking back to the bottom five. | |||
12-36 | The Hornets have pulled out some big wins this year – probably too many given their lottery hopes. | |||
11-37 | The Wizard guards are trying to adjust to life with Nene; not as smoothly as initially hoped. | |||
7-39 | The Bobcats are a basketball team but while they play games – they don’t win many.
