The NBA and its referees agreed to a new five-year deal on Thursday, ending any potential threat of a second lockout involving the league.
The agreement was reportedly voted on last week and ratified during the owners’ meeting in Dallas on Thursday. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Just two years earlier, a contract dispute between the sides nearly caused the NBA to open the season with replacement referees. The league used replacements during the preseason before the sides came together on an agreement right before the regular season.
The NBA and its players still remain without a new agreement but have been in active discussions to end the ongoing lockout.
