NBA releases preseason sked – with a catch
The NBA released its preseason schedule Thursday, but was quick to point out that all games remained tentative with the league and union still embroiled in a tense labor standoff. The league announced that the exhibition schedule would begin Oct. 9, but only if the two sides have come to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement by that time. The preseason calendar would run until Oct. 28, with the first regular-season game scheduled for Nov. 1.Barring an unforeseen change of heart on behalf of the union or the league, the preseason likely won’t get underway in time. The two sides have met just once since the lockout began, and would likely have to reach an accord by the middle of next month. The league says it is losing too much money, and needs to rein in costs. The players contend that they will never agree to a salary cap of any sort.
