New CBA will likely contain amnesty clause
Teams looking to get rid of an unwanted contract will likely have that chance as part of the new collective bargaining agreement.Owners and the players’ union reached an agreement early Saturday morning that will bring an end to the five-month-long lockout. The deal is pending ratification by the league’s owners and its players, once the union reforms. The amnesty clause would allow teams to cut one player without having to pay the rest of his salary. Normally, any player released while still under contract would be owed the remainder of his deal.Players cut would be immediately eligible to sign with any team in the league.
