One week into his tenure as Orlando’s general manager, Rob Hennigan cleaned house in the scouting department.
Henningan, hired after four seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder, replaced Otis Smith.
Hennigan fired assistant general manager Dave Twardzik and six scoutings, including pro scouts Bob Staak and Al Walker.
Hennigan plans to move in a new direction, rebuilding the Magic through the draft. Reports circulated Monday that the Magic could move Dwight Howard for multiple draft picks, or a package of draft picks and young veterans.
The 30-year-old Hennigan spent his first two seasons with Oklahoma City as the director of college and international scouting. He was promoted to assistant general manager in 2010, reporting to Sam Presti. He worked for five seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, first as an intern and entry-level scout before rising up the personnel department ranks.
