Just five days after becoming the No. 1 team in the country in national polls, Louisville was upset by No. 6 Syracuse 70-69 in a Big East battle between two of the leagues best teams.

The Cardinals will likely fall off their perch as the top team in the country and spark yet another debate for No. 1 in Monday’s USA TODAY Sports Coaches poll. It was the second straight Saturday a No. 1 team has fallen after Duke lost to North Carolina State last week.

Brandon Triche paced Syracuse (17-1, 5-0) with 23 points, while Michael Carter Williams added 16 points and seven assists. C.J. Fair contributed 10 points and 8 rebounds.

Russ Smith finished with 25 points in Louisville’s losing effort.

It was the Orange’s third straight win over the Cardinals and it snapped Louisville’s 11-game winning streak.
