UNC State jolts third-seeded Georgetown
North Carolina State rallied and advanced to their first Sweet 16 since 2005 with a 66-63 victory over third-seeded Georgetown.
The 11th-seeded Wolfpack (24-12) will face either second-seeded Kansas or No. 10 seed Purdue in the Midwest Regional semifinals on Friday in St. Louis.
After Lorenzo Brown missed his second foul shot with four seconds left, Jason Clark had a long, open 3-pointer that was way off.
The Hoyas (24-9) led 25-15 with five minutes to play in the first half before the Wolfpack responded with a 15-2 run, capped by C.J. Leslie’s breakaway dunk with four seconds left.
North Carolina State extended its lead to 11 with 14 minutes to go before Georgetown’s Hollis Thompson scored nine straight points to slow the Wolfpack’s momentum.
Thompson scored 17 of his team-high 23 points in the second half for Georgetown, which lost despite holding North Carolina to 37.2 percent shooting from the field.
C.J. Williams, Scott Wood and Leslie scored 14 points apiece for the Wolfpack. Wood made four of his five 3-point attempts.
