North Dakota State’s 74-72 overtime loss to Northern Arizona last Saturday was summed in two harsh words by play-by-play radio announcer Paul Ralston.

Now, those two words are costing Ralston two games.

North Dakota suspended men’s basketball announcer for using the phrase, “choke job” following the disappointing loss to Northern Arizona. According to the Grand Forks Herald, Ralston used the words during his interview with coach Brian Jones after the loss.

Athletic director Brian Faison announced that Ralston will not call the game at Northern Colorado on Wednesday or Saturday’s game at Nebraska-Omaha. Associate athletic director Kyle Doperalski will handle the play-by-play duties for those games.

Jones wasn’t arguing with the “choke job” jab after the way his team played.

“We let this one slip away,” Jones said after his team’s loss on Saturday. “We can’t turn the ball over 21 times and expect good things to happen, but give Northern Arizona credit for finding a way to force overtime and get this victory. Both teams played hard and it’s a tough way to come out on the losing end.”
