Nuggets PG Lawson expects to play in opener

Denver Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson expects to play against the Dallas Mavericks in the team’s season opener Monday.

Lawson has been nursing a sprained ankle suffered in Tuesday’s exhibition contest. He was held out of Thursday’s preseason game as a precaution. Lawson is expected to start ahead of veteran Andre Miller if healthy.

Lawson has averaged 10.2 points and 4.0 assists in his two seasons in the NBA.
