Oladipo Does Not Start; Scores 12 In Debut
Oladipo did not start — the Magic went with a veteran backcourt of Jameer Nelson and Arron Affalo to start the game — but scored 12 points in less than 23 minutes while adding three rebounds and two assists in the Pacers’ 97-87 victory. IU coach Tom Crean watched much of the game from a high-priced courtside seat between the Pacers’ bench and the scorer’s table.
“Overall, I think he was good,” Orlando coach Jacque Vaughn said. “This is a tough atmosphere for him to be at, with him being so close to where he went to school. I think he attacked the rim for us, got to the free throw line and did a good job.”
Oladipo entered the game with 5:38 left in the first quarter and the majority of the sellout crowd of 18,165 gave him a standing ovation. His first basket was a 3-pointer from the top of the key that cut the Pacers’ lead to 17-14 with 3:12 remaining in the period.
