Here are this week’s smart plays and bad plays, followed by their DraftStreet salary and statistics from their last five games:

Smart Buys

Antawn Jamison – $10,792

– 16 points, 9 rebounds, 1 block, 56.4 FG%, 47.6 3P%

- Jamison’s stock is on the rise after a 33-point, 12-rebound game against the Denver Nuggets and he’s a bargain at $10,792. Unlike Pau Gasol, Jamison is playing well in Lakers head coach Mike D’Antoni’s offense. Gasol was benched late in the game against the Orlando Magic and the Lakers have decided to rest him for the next several games, which means Jamison will be the Lakers’ starting power forward over the next week. However, Jamison is still priced like a reserve, which is why he’s a very smart buy this week.

Anderson Varejao – $19,833

- 18.2 points, 18.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.6 steals, 56.7 FG%

- Paying nearly $20,000 for Varejao seems like a lot, but he has been arguably the most consistent player in the league this season. Over the past five games, Varejao has been the best big man in the NBA, averaging over 18 points and 18 rebounds. While it may be tempting to splurge on a big-name player like Tim Duncan or Dwight Howard, Varejao has outplayed them and is worth $19,833.

Tony Parker – $15,141

- 24.8 points, 6.2 assists, 2.8 rebounds, 56.5 FG%

- Parker has been playing at an extremely high level over the last five games. During that stretch, he had the fourth-highest scoring average in the NBA and still managed to average over six assists. Parker is a bargain at $15,141, cheaper than other point guards such as Stephen Curry, Jrue Holiday, Rajon Rondo and Russell Westbrook. Parker should continue playing at a high level after Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich made the controversial decision to rest Parker and four teammates rather than play them against the Miami Heat.

Bad Buys

Pau Gasol – $12,523

– 9.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 38.1 FG%

- As we said last week, don’t waste your money on Gasol until he gets comfortable and finds his role in the Lakers’ offense. His struggles continued over the past week, and the Lakers have decided to rest him due to tendonitis in his knees. Gasol may not play a single game this week so he’s not worth spending $12,523 on. Instead, spend significantly less on his replacement Antawn Jamison, who has been playing very well as of late.

Larry Sanders – $15,692

- 8.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.6 blocks and 48.6 FG%

- Sanders has been one of the league’s pleasant surprises one month into the season and his numbers are impressive for a reserve. However, is a back-up worth $15,692? Sanders has been playing well, but he’s overpriced considering his minutes change from one game to the next. Instead, spend a little bit more to get a starting big man who has been producing lately such as Anderson Varejao, Dwight Howard, David West or Al Horford.

Derrick Favors – $12,769

- 9.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, 16.7 minutes

- Paying $12,769 for a reserve is somewhat questionable, but paying $12,769 for an injured reserve is just stupid. Favors has missed Utah’s last two games with a strained right arch and was recently diagnosed with plantar fasciitis, which could keep him sidelined for quite some time. Until he gets healthy and returns to action for the Jazz, he’s a big question mark and someone who should be avoided.
