Dominic Artis out indefinitely with foot injury

Oregon coach Dana Altman hasn’t made a big deal about his Ducks being in first place in the Pac-12. Instead, he’s cautioned the “wait-and-see” approach before getting too high on his team, even saying after Wednesday’s win that put No. 19 Oregon at 6-0 in conference play that his team hadn’t had any serious injuries or illnesses yet. He and his team had been lucky.
Freshman guard Dominic Artis is out indefinitely with a foot injury, a person with direct knowledge of the injury told USA TODAY Sports Saturday. The person spoke under the condition of anonymity because the team has not announced the injury yet. Artis is expected to be back before the end of the regular season.
Artis has started all 19 games this season and averages 10.2 points and 3.8 assists.
Oregon will rely on Johnathan Loyd to step up in Artis’ absence. Loyd has started four times this season and 27 times during his first two seasons. This season, Loyd is averaging 2.8 points and 2.2 assists in 16.5 minutes.
One of the trademarks of this Oregon team is its balanced scoring. Four players besides Artis average double-digit scoring, and all week they have stressed that any one of them has the ability to pick up the team if need be. Now’s that time.
Oregon plays Washington at home Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.… [For more on Oregon starter Dominic Artis out indefinitely with foot injury, click here.]
