Pacers’ Young Showing his Worth on Defense
One of the questions fans constantly asked early in the season was: Why did the Indiana Pacers keep forward Sam Young on the roster when they could have kept the spot open for potential moves during the season?
Young, who was only released last month because he severely sprained his left ankle just days before contracts became guaranteed, showed his value Friday against the Miami HEAT. Put him on the opposing team’s best perimeter player and use him to hound that player around the court.
That’s what Young did when he was in the game. He used his playing time trying to get under stars LeBron James and Dwyane Wade’s skin.
There’s nobody in the league capable of stopping either of those players. But Young fits the description of the type of player who can make it difficult on the two and not extend teammate Paul George’s minutes which will be big over the course of the season.
