Pelicans Hold Until Kings Decide on Evans
On a holding pattern until Sacramento Kings restricted free agent Tyreke Evans makes a decision on whether to accept their four-year offer, the New Orleans Pelicans are not in serious negotiations with any other free agents, league sources close to the situation confirmed Wednesday.
Since the Pelicans made their four-year offer that exceeds $40 million on Sunday night, Evans has met with the Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks and the Kings. Although Evans’ decision could be made by Friday, it likely will be based on whether the Kings indicate they are willing or not to match the Pelicans’ offer.
Because Evans is a restricted free agent, the Kings can match any offer he receives. If Evans signs the Pelicans’ offer on July 10, the first day free agents can sign contracts, the Kings would have three days to match it.
