Phil Jackson isn’t a fan of Mike Rice

If there’s one person on the planet who knows what makes a good basketball coach, it’s Phil Jackson. And guess where he stands on the controversial tactics just-fired Rutgers University head coach Mike Rice? The legendary former Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers coach weighed in on the controversy on his newly created Twitter account on Wednesday, and he’s not a fan of Rice’s coaching style.
It’s pretty plain that Rice’s behavior towards his players is barbaric and has no place at any level of basketball. Jackson’s analysis of the situation isn’t exactly groundbreaking, but it carries plenty of weight. This guy has won 11 NBA championships and coached Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Kobe Bryant, and Shaquille O’Neal. And he did it all with a calmness that earned him the “Zen Master” nickname. So if Rice ever decides to get back into coaching, Phil’s a guy he might want to listen to.
