Phoenix Embracing Suns Rebuild?
Today, [The Suns] are like the family station wagon that drove for hours in the wrong direction because dad wouldn’t ask for help. And now they are on the long road back.
“They seem to finally have a direction,” former Suns owner Jerry Colangelo said. “They seem to have taken some positive steps forward.”
This team is not good. It traded three of the best players (Marcin Gortat, Luis Scola, Jared Dudley) from a team that was 25-57 last season, the worst record in the Western Conference. The Las Vegas Hilton put the Suns’ over/under win total at 21½, the second-worst forecast in the NBA.
So why is Planet Orange smiling?
“The fundamental difference is somewhat psychological,” Suns President Lon Babby said. “People are embracing the clarity in which we’re rebuilding. And I think it’s terrific. I’m very excited, and very grateful that we’re getting that response.”
