Frank: Lack of Defense Pistons Downfall
Lawrence Frank completed his first season as coach of the Pistons on Thursday, and already is looking ahead to next season.
After missing the playoffs a third consecutive season, the players said that drought will end next season.
And Frank agrees — if certain things, that is, happen.
Frank sat down with News staff writer Terry Foster to unveil his plan.
Q. But unless you show signs of playing better defense everything else is fake.
A. That is how we are going to get back to being a winning team and a winning organization and a team that can sustain winning is that commitment. To me, because we did not always make that commitment every night, that is one of the reasons why we are not in the playoffs.
Q. Guys like Austin Daye and Charlie Villanueva have not played much. And without getting into specifics what does a guy have to do to get into your rotation?
A. You are competing against other guys for time. How do those pieces fit? To me especially when you are going into an offseason, unless you have bona fide All-Star players everything is open. Look fellas, this is a clean slate. Here is what we want you to do. We get specific with each guy in terms of strength and conditioning, a basketball standpoint.
