Pistons Won’t Re-Sign Maggette, Maxiell
The Detroit Pistons are expected to formally renounce the contracts of Jose Calderon, Corey Maggette, Will Bynum and Jason Maxiell as we enter the free agency period. The team is projected to enter free agency with between $21 million to $25 million in salary cap room to aggressively target free agents and the franchise intends to be a player.
Out of the players expected to be renounced Maggette and Maxiell are the two the team in all likelihood won’t consider resigning for the 2013-14 campaign.
The Pistons are in the market for a point guard behind the emerging Brandon Knight, which means either Bynum or Calderon will get a strong look from the franchise depending on the market value.
It is said the Pistons will hesitate to offer Calderon any deal north of $7 million per season moving forward.
The Pistons drafted shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in the first round of this year’s draft and the selection of forward Tony Mitchell in round two likely signified the end of Maxiell’s tenure with the organization. Maxiell was drafted by the team in with the No. 26 overall pick in the 2005 draft.
