It is further evidence of Popovich’s confidence in the young starter’s ability to handle pressure. So when the Knicks bring the league’s only undefeated record into the AT&T Center tonight in the Spurs’ first home game in 10 days, don’t doubt Popovich will ask Leonard to spend some time defending Knicks scoring leader Carmelo Anthony.

“Think about it,” Popovich said after Tuesday’s victory. “This was Kawhi’s first training camp, and he guards Ron Artest (Metta World Peace) and Kobe Bryant. That helps you learn really quickly — and he loves it. He’s really a sponge when it comes to information and trying to do the right thing.”
