The Orlando Magic joined the Dallas Mavericks as NBA teams who tried to convince CSKA Moscow big man Andrey Vorontsevich to sign with them, according to a Google Chrome translation of a report on basketnews.lt, but the 25-year-old elected to stay with CSKA Moscow instead.
Vorontsevich averaged 5.8 points and 2.7 rebounds in Euroleague play for CSKA Moscow during the 2011/12 season, shooting 62.8 percent on two-point shots and 32.7 percent from three-point range. In Russian-league play, he posted averages of eight points and 4.1 boards.
Though the calendar has nearly turned over to September, Orlando has yet to sign any free agents, though it has re-signed point guards Ish Smith and Jameer Nelson. It has nonetheless overhauled its roster via trade, unloading Dwight Howard, Chris Duhon, Earl Clark, and Jason Richardson in a four-way deal and sending restricted free agent Ryan Anderson to the New Orleans Hornets in a sign-and-trade transaction, netting Mexican center Gustavo Ayón in return.
