According to ESPN, Shaquille O’Neal is on the short list of GM candidates with the Orlando Magic.

O’Neal retired after the 2010-11 season and was a studio analyst on TNT’s “Inside the NBA” during the 2011-12 season. He began his NBA career with the Orlando Magic in 1992 and played four seasons before joining the Lakers.

Beginning with O’Neal, the Magic have a history of losing star players and have been clinging to All-Star center Dwight Howard for the last year amidst constant rumors of trade demands and roster suggestions.

The Magic fired coach Stan Van Gundy and parted ways with GM Otis Smith earlier this week. Van Gundy said April 5 that Howard wanted him fired, but ownership this week denied Howard made any recommendation.
