The NBA and its players’ union are reportedly set to meet next week, just the second huddle between the two sides since the collective bargaining agreement expired July 1.The first encounter ended without any progress reported by either side. Commissioner David Stern expressed dismay at the players’ stance, suggesting the two sides were miles apart in negotiations.Top executives for both sides will attend next week’s session. Stern will be joined by deputy commissioner Adam Silver, while union executive director Billy Hunter and president Derek Fisher will also be in attendance. The league is seeking a reduction in player salaries, as well as a harder limit on what each team can spend. Players say they will never agree to any mechanism that acts as a cap on salaries.
