The Houston Rockets will use the amnesty provision to waive forward Luis Scola, a move intended to improve the Rockets’ chances of landing Dwight Howard, Yahoo! Sports reported.
The Rockets will file the paperwork on Friday, according to the report, and getting rid of the final three years and $21 million left on Scola’s contract will clear cap room to lure Howard.
The Rockets are continuing trade discussions with Orlando, but no trade with Orlando seems imminent.
Howard has said he would not re-sign with the Rockets, but the Rockets continue to push for deal.
Scola should draw considerable interest on the amnesty waiver wire. According to CBSSports.com, Dallas will be interested if it cannot get Elton Brand.
Scola, 32, started 66 games for Houston this past season, averaging 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds.
