Report: Wallace Dealing with Stress Fracture

Rasheed Wallace’s mysterious “sore foot” injury is really a stress fracture, according to a Knicks source.

Officially, the team is listing Wallace’s status as day-to-day, but privately it is optimistic that the injury won’t sideline the veteran forward for an extended period of time. Wallace missed his fourth straight game on Friday and hasn’t practiced or played in 10 days.

Wallace was signed just before the start of training camp and missed most of the preseason while working his way back into NBA playing shape. Woodson, who has been careful not to push his older players, is more concerned with making sure they are healthy by April. In Wallace’s case, the Knicks will be extra careful considering his inactivity the past two years.

The club’s medical staff is taking a similar approach with Amar’e Stoudemire, who was also given a day-to-day timetable when he suffered a knee injury in October. Day-to-day has turned into nearly 70 days following Stoudemire’s left knee surgery.
