Rivers: Varejao Can Teach All Cavs Players

Their teams couldn’t be more different, but good friends and opposing coaches Byron Scott and Doc Rivers have the same complaint about their squads: Consistency.

“I think veteran teams struggle with it at times because they’re looking ahead,” Rivers said of his Celtics before Wednesday night’s game at TD Garden. “Young teams struggle with it because they just don’t know how.

“I will say this. [The Cavs] have the one guy who can teach them all, and he does, in ]Anderson Varejao]. He’s just a joy to watch. You can see that in their play. You can see that in [Tristan Thompson]‘s play now and [Tyler Zeller]. Playing with that guy every day, as Jon Gruden would say, it makes you take notice. He’s been a great teacher for their bigs.”
