It appears that Royce White can finally get back to playing basketball.

White was reinstated by the Houston Rockets and will report to the team’s D-League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, on Feb. 11, according to a joint statement released Saturday by the Rockets and White.

White has been inactive all season, and the team suspended the rookie forward on Jan. 6 after he refused an initial assignment to Rio Grande Valley. The sides “reached an agreement that addresses the major issues” facing White and the Rockets, the statement said.

Neither the Rockets nor White offered any details of the agreement, but the statement said it had been approved by the league and the players’ union.

The Rockets drafted White out of Iowa State with the No. 16 pick in the June draft. He has not played this season while he and the team tried to work out a suitable arrangement for White to manage an anxiety disorder while playing in the NBA.

Since being drafted, White has been outspoken about mental health issues and the Rockets’ plan for him. When he refused the D-League assignment in late December, White issued a statement that said, “I do wish to play, but I only intend to do so with the collaboration and recommendation of trained professionals.”

At the time of White’s suspension, a person familiar with the situation told USA TODAY Sports’ Jeff Zillgitt that White sought an established medical protocol in place that gave doctors full authority over his mental health.

Earlier this week, White appeared on HBO’s Real Sports and acknowledged the possibility of never playing in the NBA due to his anxiety disorder. Still, he insisted that he does want to play, saying, “I’m not going to accept it without a fight.”

White has also been vocal on Twitter about the situation, often facing down criticism — some of it homophobic, sexist and derogatory — from users and maintaining his desire to play only with a medical plan in place.
