The Houston Rockets have suspended rookie forward Royce White, who refused his D-League assignment last week amid a conflict between the two sides regarding White’s mental health and his concerns.

The Rockets suspended White for “refusing to provide services as required by the uniform player contract,” Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said in a statement.

In the statement, Morey also said, “We will continue to work with Royce to hopefully come to a resolution.”

Shortly after the announcement, White Tweeted, “What’s suspending me suppose to do – I’ve been away from the team for a month 1/2. Guess we want to give it a title to shift accountability.”

White suffers from anxiety disorders and has been outspoken about his mental health, making that the top priority. He has been at odds with the team, saying the Rockets are not following medical protocol White believes was established after the Rockets drafted him. The talented White has not been with the team for nearly seven weeks.

The Rockets have been fairly quiet about the situation. They were aware of White’s mental health before they drafted him and believed they could make it work.

White has been extremely vocal on Twitter, stating his case and engaging with others on the social media platform. At times, he has been eloquent and passionate, and at times, he has alienated his employer and Rockets and NBA fans. If anything, White is standing up for what he believes is right.
