Saints say owner Benson purchases Hornets
New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson has purchased the NBA’s Hornets, the NFL team announced on Friday.
The Saints confirmed the sale on Twitter by saying they are “thrilled” to confirm “Tom Benson as the new owner of the New Orleans (at)Hornets!”
The NBA bought the Hornets from founder George Shinn in December 2010.
Shinn had owned the Hornets since their inception in Charlotte in 1988. He moved the team to New Orleans in 2002 when he was unable to get funding for a new arena and had dealt with financial issues throughout his ownership.
