San Antonio Spurs Focusing On Defense
“I think the last couple years, our focus has kind of been on offense, trying to up our tempo and be more of a scoring team,” said Tim Duncan, the Spurs’ leading scorer after two games at 22 points per game. “We want to keep that, obviously. But defensively, we’re going to have to be better.”
Indeed, the Spurs scorched to the West finals last season — sweeping the Jazz in the first round along the way — on the back of an offense that was historically good.
Improving a defense that ranked in the middle of the pack was the stated goal of the Spurs’ training camp and preseason.
