Sixers guard Jason Richardson will have surgery next week to repair damaged cartilage in his left knee and will be sidelined for nine to 12 months, he told reporters Friday.

Richardson visited four doctors before making the decision.

“It’s pretty tough news to hear from four different doctors,” Richardson said. “They pretty much all said the same thing.”
