Troy Murphy reached a verbal agreement Thursday to sign a one-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks, according to a source.

But since the Mavs already have the NBA maximum of 15 players on their roster, Murphy can’t officially sign the new contract until the Mavs release or trade a player.

“I can’t really say anything, but I’ll say we are looking for a stretch forward to help us in Dirk’s absence and even after Dirk comes back,’’ owner Mark Cuban said on FOX 4-TV. “He’s one of the options out there that we’re taking a close look at.’’
