The Houston Rockets are close to signing point guard Patrick Beverley after Christmas according to a source in knowledge of the move.

A former player at Arkansas, Beverley was drafted in the second round by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009 before being traded to the Miami Heat for a future 2011 second round draft pick. Beverley was signed by the Heat but cut after the training camp.

Beverley, 24, was the Eurocup MVP last season while playing with Spartak St. Petersburg in Russia. The deal is not finalized or considered imminent, but would likely be a multi-year deal according to the source. The Rockets have not reached a decision on how they will open a roster spot though rookie point guard Scott Machado has a partially-guaranteed contract.
