COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina’s second-leading scorer Lashay Page won’t play the rest of the season because of academic issues.

The school announced the senior’s status on Friday. First-year coach Frank Martin said on Thursday he’d hoped to have Page’s “academic glitch” cleared up in a day or two, perhaps even in time for the start of Southeastern Conference play next week.

Instead, the senior transfer from Southern Miss is done for the season. Athletic department spokeswoman Emily Feeney-Molinary said Martin would not be available to discuss the situation until after Saturday’s game against South Carolina State.

Page, 6-foot-2 guard, has started nine games and averaged 11.7 points. He’s also been South Carolina’s top foul shooter at 87.1 percent.

He had missed South Carolina’s past two games as Martin dealt with eligibility questions.
