Spurs’ GM Not Sure if Extended Rest Helps
By the time June 6 finally rolls around, the rest vs. rust debate will be on display like never before.
It will have been 10 days since the San Antonio Spurs played a game, back when they finished off the Memphis Grizzlies in a four-game sweep.
So shouldn’t a team like the Spurs be ecstatic, eager to let elderly players like Tim Duncan, 37, and Manu Ginobili, 35, and the rest recover during the longest of layoffs? As San Antonio general manager R.C. Buford sees it, the answer to that question isn’t clear.
“We don’t know how to react to rest vs. rust,” he told USA TODAY Sports. “It is what it is, and we’re trying to prepare and maintain focus and rhythm and reduce opportunities for an injury. But there isn’t a perfect (practice) program that gets you there.”
