Stern falls ill, doesn’t attend meeting in person
NBA commissioner David Stern has come down with a bout of the flu and will not be attending Thursday’s meeting between the league, the players’ union and a federal mediator.Stern was ordered by doctors to stay home after contracting a bug. Deputy commissioner Adam Silver broke the news to reporters Thursday afternoon.Silver went on to say Stern would remain an “active participant” in the session, either by video phone or computer. The league and union are meeting with mediator George Cohen for a third consecutive day of talks aimed at ending the NBA lockout, which has already resulted in the cancellation of 100 regular-season games. The two sides remain apart on several issues, though sources say that the gap on some topics, including a split of basketball related income (BRI), has been narrowed.
