Showtime looks more like a sloppy dress rehearsal.
Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Nash was helped off the court near the end of the first half Wednesday against the Portland Trail Blazers, clutching below his left knee. Nash collided with Blazers rookie Damian Lillard. Nash left the game after the collision.
Nash returned for the Lakers at the start of the second half but quickly was helped off the floor again as his left ankle seemed to be in pain. He went to the locker room.
The Lakers said during the third quarter Nash would miss the rest of the game.
The Lakers trailed the Blazers 62-57 at the intermission, and Lillard hurt them with the basketball, too. The No. 6 overall draft pick had nine points and seven assists in his first NBA half.
Nash has two points and four assists. He and Dwight Howard were the key additions to this year’s team that helped make the Lakers a favorite to dethrone the Miami Heat.
The Lakers lost 99-91 Tuesday to the Dallas Mavericks in their season opener.
