Summitt to receive Presidential Medal
Former Tennessee women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest honor for a civilian.
President Barack Obama praised Summitt for both her impressive resume as well as being able to “speak so openly and courageously about her battle with Alzheimer’s.”
A winner of eight national championships and 1,098 games during her coaching career with the Lady Vols, Summitt announced that she is stepping aside after 38 seasons.
The winningest college coach of all time – men or women – Summitt will be replaced by Lady Vols associate head coach Holly Warlick.
