Another No. 1 falls, Kentucky looks terrible

In case you were out partying (likely) or going to bed early to get up for church (semi-likely) last night, there was some college basketball you missed.

1. Another No. 1 bites the dust:

Oops they did it again. The Duke Blue Devils, ranked No. 1 only in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, had the court stormed on them once again after a 63-61 loss to Maryland on Saturday. It was the third time Duke lost as the No. 1 team this year, previously getting upset by North Carolina State (wheelchair court stormer, anybody?) and Miami (that dreadful 27-point blowout).

The Terrapins went from a bubble team to a giant slayer following Seth Allen’s game-winning free throws with less than three seconds left. It even caused Maryland coach Mark Turgeon to cry. No, seriously.

A usually stern Turgeon spilled his emotions after the defining win, dedicating it to critics who affected his family.

“I don’t do a lot of things well. I like to think I can coach a little bit, and I haven’t done a very good job. It’s been a hard week for my family. It was a hard for my son last week. He had to leave the gym because the fans were so hard on his dad. This – this – was for them,” Turgeon said, choked up.

“I know what it means to our fan base. I wanted to beat Duke. I wanted to beat Duke. This means a lot to me. I talked about it in the summer, ‘God, if we beat Duke, I’m going to be in the student section. I’m going to be hanging out with the students.’ This game means a lot to me. It’s tough on the family. I’m really happy for them. That’s why they’re here tonight.”

2. No Noel, mo problems:

The Nerlens Noel-less era in Kentucky got off to a horrendous start in a 30-point blowout loss to Tennessee, a middle-of-the-pack SEC team.
