Phoenix Suns forward Michael Beasley acknowledges making mistakes that earned him citations from Scottsdale police but thought the media attention was unwarranted for violations having to do with speeding, driving on a suspended license and driving an unregistered vehicle with no license plate.
“It definitely got blown out of proportion,” Beasley said.
“I broke the law. I was driving too fast and got caught for doing it.”
Asked about the gun he told the officer was in his back seat’s center arm rest, he said, “I was abiding by Arizona state rules except for my citations.”
Beasley said P.J. Tucker’s brother had been at his house and he was giving him a ride home. He said it was a six-minute walk home after he was cited and released on the scene while his Mercedes-Benz was impounded. He was handcuffed at one point.
“It was protocol, I guess,” Beasley said. “He was just doing his job. I was being cooperative. I wasn’t being an (expletive) like he said a lot of guys are.”
