Portland Trail Blazers guard Elliot Williams will need to undergo surgery to repair a torn left Achilles tendon, it was announced today by General Manager Neil Olshey.

Williams, 23, sustained the injury during voluntary workouts at the team’s Practice Facility on Tuesday. A date for the surgery has not been set.

During his NBA career, Williams has averaged 3.7 points (50.0% FG), 0.8 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.25 steals and 6.2 minutes in 24 games. He played his final game last season on March 7 due to a left shoulder injury suffered during practice that required surgery on March 30. Williams missed the 2010-11 season due to surgeries on both knees.

A timetable for Williams’ return will be determined following the surgery.
