Syracuse and Georgetown meet in the Carrier Dome on Saturday for the final time as members of the Big East conference. The game will set an NCAA on-campus attendance record, and the two teams are tied for first place in the league.

So how does a game of these proportions get any bigger? A little trash talk from Syracuse’s Michael Carter-Williams should do the trick.

The sophomore point guard disrespected the Hoyas in an interview on Syracuse.com yesterday.

“We’ve always been better than them, always will be better than them,” he said. “And we just want to go out on top.”

Jim Boeheim can’t be too happy to have his court general give Georgetown some bulletin board material, but is Carter-Williams right?

In 87 all-time meetings, Syracuse has holds a 48-39 advantage. Both teams have won one NCAA title, but Georgetown holds a 5-4 edge in Final Four appearances.

In the Big East tournament, Georgetown has cut down the nets seven times compared to five for Syracuse.

It’s a close call, but the Orange’s 64-61 win last year over the Hoyas does at least give them a 1-0 lead in the Carter-Williams era. The Syracuse guard will have two opportunities in as many weeks to beef up his record, as the Orange face Georgetown March 9 in Washington after this weekend’s game.
