North Carolina State might be on the verge of an NCAA record.

The Wolfpack have been a part of three court rushes this season. Unfortunately for coach Mark Gottfried, the last two court rushes weren’t to celebrate his team’s victories.

After upsetting then-No. 1 Duke, N.C. State appeared to be a legitimate ACC contender. That’s tough to see now after court-storming losses to a mediocre Maryland team and Tuesday’s 86-84 loss to lowly Wake Forest.

Former N.C. State forward Thomas De Thaey, who left the program in November, took a direct jab at his old coach following the Wake Forest loss.

He tweeted:

“That’s what happens when you’re a great recruiter, but a terrible coach!”

This is something we’ve seen before, certainly, but freshman player T.J. Warren retweeted this.

Hmm. That awkward moment when you appear to support a message that suggests your coach isn’t good at his job.

Now, this could have just been an accident or a natural reflex after a frustrating loss. But this highlights the highs and lows of a college basketball season. One week it’s the story of a wheelchair fan storming the court after beating the best team in the country. The next week one player is promoting a “terrible coach” tweet.

Warren quickly deleted this tweet after taking flack for it. Thaey, meanwhile, kept his Twitter rant going with: “Y’all mad at me now because I’m just telling you guys the truth…LOL!”
