After pulling off perhaps the most stunning upset of the season with a 62-55 win over No. 5 Kansas, the Texas Christian Horned Frogs came back to reality.
TCU coach Trent Johnson told the Fort-Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram that his players missed class after celebrating the victory. Some players also had their cars towed. After spending the night basking in the glory of a court rush, dominating SportsCenter and then surely partying, players found out the hard way that they’re not invincible.
“Did I think some of this stuff could happen today? No question,” TCU told the Star-Telegram. “But when this program is where it needs to be and we’re winning and competing at a high level consistently, I won’t have to worry about this stuff. Today, I’m not very happy and that’s just the way it is. Right now, this is a teaching point.
“We have to learn how to deal with success,” Johnson added. “That’s part of being mentally tough. It’s all part of the process in terms of how you deal with prosperity. You can’t win on the floor if you’re not winning socially and academically. There’s no way around that. And these guys have to deal with it.”
