TCU upsets No. 11 UNLV

Hank Thorns had 10 of his game-high 32 points in overtime — including a wild, desperation 3-pointer that gave TCU a five-point lead late — as the Horned Frogs pulled off a stunning victory after a big second-half rally against the Rebels.Thorns finished 8-of-12 from 3-point range, but none was bigger than his hopeful heave with 1:23 left. With TCU (15-10, 5-4 MWC) leading 93-91 with 1:23 left, Thorns buried a 3-pointer near the top of the key over a defender as the shot clock expired.J.R. Cadot’s layup gave TCU a 98-93 advantage moments later. From there, the Horned Frogs made 4-of-6 free throws to preserve the victory, their first over UNLV (22-5, 6-3 MWC) in seven tries.The Rebels, who lost for the second time in three games, seemed to have the game in hand midway through the second half. They took a 68-50 lead with 13:51 left on Justin Hawkins’ jumper.But TCU stormed back, using a 35-17 run to pull even at 85 on Amric Fields’ layup with 2:14 left. Neither team scored another basket in regulation, and the game went to overtime after TCU’s final attempt in regulation failed to beat the buzzer.Mike Moser finished with 22 points and eight rebounds for UNLV, which led 48-43 at the half. Chace Stanback and Anthony Marshall had 17 points, Oscar Bellfield added 16 and Brice Massamba had 12.UNLV fell to 3-1 in overtime games this season. The Rebels have gone to overtime in three of their last six games.Fields finished with 17 points and seven rebounds for the Horned Frogs, who topped the 100-point mark for the second time. Cadot had 16 points and 12 rebounds, Garlon Green had 13 points and Craig Williams added 10.
