Terrence Ross wore the Vince Carter throwback. Then he followed in his Toronto Raptors predecessor’s footsteps.

Ross won the NBA All-Star weekend slam dunk contest Saturday night in a memorable final round against Utah Jazz forward and defending champion Jeremy Evans. Ross had the best first round in the event and followed through to become the first rookie to win since Josh Smith in 2005.

The final round was decided by fan vote through various media.

Ross’ final round dunks were inspired: First, he donned Carter’s No. 15 jersey and had high school teammate and Houston Rockets forward Terrence Jones throw a pass off the side of the backboard, finishing with a reverse.

Then he lept over a young boy while putting the ball between his legs.

Evans’ final round was almost as good. He jumped over an easel for his first dunk, then revealed a painting himself doing just that. His second dunk featured a lob from a seated Dahntay Jones, on which he showed his incredible leaping ability.

James White and Gerald Green may have had the finest dunks of the first round, but they both failed to execute their second dunks and were eliminated. Ross finished with 99 points in the round, though, so it may not have mattered. Still, their poor dunks cost the Eastern Conference in the inaugural team points competition, which went to captain Chris Paul and the Western Confernece.
